Overview
Hyperliquid is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain and decentralized exchange (DEX) purpose-built for on-chain derivatives trading, offering perpetual futures and spot markets with a fully transparent, non-custodial order book. Its primary value is delivering centralized exchange execution speed and liquidity depth entirely on-chain, eliminating the trust assumptions and custody risks inherent to CEX platforms.
Launched publicly in 2023 and developed by a team with backgrounds in high-frequency trading and quantitative finance, Hyperliquid operates its own custom L1 consensus — HyperBFT — achieving block latency under 1 second and processing tens of thousands of orders per second. The native token HYPE launched in November 2024 via a landmark airdrop that distributed 31% of the supply to community participants, making it one of the largest DeFi airdrops by value. The protocol is operated without venture capital backing, preserving alignment with retail users.
