Overview
Aerodrome is a decentralized exchange and automated market maker on the Base network that pairs token swaps with a vote-based liquidity incentive system. Its primary value is directing AERO emissions and trading fees toward pools chosen by token voters, which gives traders liquidity and gives liquidity providers fee and incentive income.
Aerodrome was developed by Dromos Labs and launched on Base in August 2023. It builds on Velodrome, the team's earlier exchange on Optimism, which is based on the Solidly ve(3,3) model. Users lock the AERO token to receive veAERO, which carries voting power. Third-party sources report that Aerodrome handles roughly 50-60% of DEX volume on Base, with over $1.3 billion in total value locked as of January 2026. Dromos Labs has announced that Aerodrome and Velodrome will merge into a single protocol called Aero. Reports state the launch is scheduled for October 21, 2026 across seven chains: Base, Ethereum, OP Mainnet, Arc, Ink, Arbitrum and Robinhood Chain. In July 2026, weekly gauge voting was reportedly replaced by a Predictive Allocation system. Details may change, so check official announcements.
