How We Calculate Utility Score
Our Utility Score is calculated based on a weighted analysis of Platform Functionality, User Experience (UX), Ecosystem Integration, and Active Usage. We evaluate the practical value of the tools, feature availability, cross-chain support, and real-world adoption metrics across the Web3 ecosystem.
Note: Utility scores are dynamic and update as apps release new features or add network support. Users should evaluate features based on their own use cases.

Overview
Ethereum is an open-source, programmable blockchain protocol that enables developers to deploy self-executing smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps) without relying on intermediaries. Its primary value lies in providing a trustless, censorship-resistant global computing layer that powers the majority of DeFi, NFT, and Web3 ecosystems.
Launched in 2015 by Vitalik Buterin and a co-founding team, Ethereum was the first blockchain to introduce a Turing-complete scripting language, expanding blockchain utility far beyond simple peer-to-peer transactions. In September 2022, Ethereum completed "The Merge" transitioning from an energy-intensive Proof of Work consensus to Proof of Stake, reducing its energy consumption by approximately 99.95% and setting the stage for future scalability upgrades under its roadmap.
Secure
Ethereum's Proof of Stake requires attackers to control 33% of staked ETH, making hostile takeover economically prohibitive at scale.
Performance
Layer 2 rollups extend Ethereum to thousands of TPS while mainnet finalizes batches, balancing throughput with decentralized base-layer security guarantees.
