Overview
Scroll is a native zkEVM Layer 2 blockchain protocol built on Ethereum, designed to scale the network using zero-knowledge rollup (ZK Rollup) technology. Its primary value is enabling faster, cheaper Ethereum transactions while inheriting the full security of the Ethereum mainnet through cryptographic validity proofs.
Founded through early collaboration with the Ethereum Privacy and Scaling Explorations (PSE) team, Scroll launched its mainnet in October 2023. In 2024, the protocol introduced its SCR governance token with 1 billion total supply, allocating portions to community airdrops, ecosystem funding, the Scroll DAO Treasury, and the Scroll Foundation. The protocol subsequently achieved Stage 2 rollup status following the Euclid upgrade in 2025, which migrated its proving system to OpenVM, a general-purpose RISC-V zkVM developed by Axiom.

OpenVM prover reduces proof generation latency and cost, enabling higher transaction throughput with no circuit capacity ceiling.

Fully web-accessible with EVM-compatible tooling; supports standard Ethereum wallets, RPCs, and developer frameworks without custom configuration.
