Overview
Sui is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain protocol developed by Mysten Labs, designed as a full-stack modular infrastructure for the next generation of decentralized applications. Its primary value is delivering sub-second transaction finality, true asset ownership, and composable developer tooling—enabling builders across DeFi, gaming, AI, and institutional finance to create products that are faster, more trustworthy, and more economically rewarding than anything possible on legacy chains.
Sui was founded by former Meta (Facebook) engineers who worked on the Diem blockchain project. Launched on mainnet in May 2023, Sui is governed by the Sui Foundation and uses the Move programming language—originally designed for Diem—as its native smart contract language. The network's native token, SUI, is used for gas fees, staking, and governance. Sui has attracted partnerships with major institutions including Google, Franklin Templeton, OKX, and Fireblocks, reflecting rapid enterprise adoption.
